Library question of the day

So this lady is sitting at the computer, and she's trying to work the A: drive, but that computer is weird and I pipe up and tell her where to find the drive.

Then she turns to me and says:

Woman at Computer: Can I ask you a question?
Real Librarian: Sure.
WaC: Why are people so hateful? I just got married and everyone is throwing it in my face that I only got married because I wanted a meal ticket.
RL: Uh...
WaC: They think he pays my bills, but he doesn't!! We help each other. Even my MOM has said that!!
RL: Uh...
WaC: I'm sorry to bring this on you, but I have no one to talk to.
RL: Uh...well, I'm sorry they are saying things like that, I understand how upsetting that must be. (relieved when an actual patron with LIBRARY question walks up).

Is the Librarian the new Bartender? If so, I'm glad I got my bachelors degree in Psych!

I just attended a presentation for candidates for a library director job. One of the candidates mentioned that librarians are starting to add "counselor" to their long list of job duties.
I kind of enjoy listening to people ramble about their personal problems (on a humorous level) so don't mind this at all!

Hi, I am writing a post today and want to have a few real librarians come on over and comment on a question I have. If you can, please come over sometime after 12 noon today (Friday, Dec. 28) EST. I'm in Boston, Mass., US.
