Like Monday, I decided to do Mother's Day stories for the pre-schoolers today!! Of course they loved it, and got to make their mommies a very special craft!!!

Mommy Monday!

Since Mother's Day is coming up next Sunday, I decided this week would be devoted to mothers!! I found some great books to read to the toddlers!!

A Mother's Day Story Time Celebration

First of all, I just have to ask where did April go?!?! I mean it's almost Mother's Day - the second Sunday in May!!! Yikes.

Anyway, back to the cool stuff. Since it's the story time before Mother's Day (is that like the Night Before Christmas?), of course I will be doing books about moms!!!

And it's Tuesday, so it's FMRNS!!! WHOOOOOT!!!! I am always so excited for Movie Night because every single movie we watch is totally worthy of being called "Fabulous." Since we are desperately trying to finish the list before my big move, A and I have been adding Bonus Night and Double Feature days. Last week, we had FMRNS: The Original, Bonus Night, AND Double Feature Friday!!!! On Tuesday, we watched Music Box, a drama from 1989 with Jessica Lange and Armin Mueller-Stahl.

For Bonus Night on Thursday, we watched The Day the Earth Stood Still, a sci-fi thriller from 1951 with Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal. I have to say - what a message!! And from the early 50s! If you haven't seen this movie, you really should. And the world should take Klaatu's message to heart. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Gort came back...

For Double Feature Friday, we had two seventies movies. The first was The Spy Who Loved Me, a James Bond from 1977 featuring Roger Moore and Barbara Bach. The second feature was the musical Hair from 1979 with John Savage, Treat Williams and Beverly D'Angelo.

A bunch of stuff came in for us at the library, so we have several choices for tonight's Feature.

Girl with a Pearl Earring, a drama from 2003 with Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson.
Blackboard Jungle, a drama from 1955 with Glenn Ford and Anne Francis.
Private Benjamin, a comedy from 1980 with Goldie Hawn (LOVE her!), Eileen Brennan and Armand Assante.
Escape to Witch Mountain, a family adventure from 1975 with Eddie Albert and Ray Milland.
Yankee Doodle Dandy, a musical from 1942 with James Cagney and Joan Leslie.

What to watch, what to watch?! Our last comedy wasn't too long ago (The Gods Must be Crazy - also from 1980), and we just watched a movie from the 50s (The Day the Earth Stood Still), a movie from the 70s (The Spy Who Loved Me) and a musical (Hair - and also the 70s!), so it might be Girl With a Pearl Earring. Then again, something else might have come in for us that will catch our fancy!! Stay tuned to find out!!

P.S. We also have School House Rock to watch - but those we watch in between movies and after the feature. I've seen a few, but not a whole lot. They are terribly fun and very informational all at the same time!!!!

Story time with a special guest

My mom is visiting me in Nashville this weekend, and I am SO excited that she is coming to story time!!! She has never seen me do story time before, so I can't wait! Since we have such a special guest with us, I am reading fun stories about moms!!! The first three are the ones that I decided to read today, the next few are additional books I found about moms!










And, as always, it is FMRNS Night!!! I am dropping my mom off at the airport, and heading directly to my friend A's place! The feature of the evening is The Last Temptation of Christ from 1988.

Tuesday = Best Day of the Week

I LOVE Tuesdays. People go on and on about Fridays and Saturdays, and I really enjoy those days, too. But Tuesdays...

Tuesday is the day when I have my Preschool story time. I get to read fun stories to sweet little kids who just LOVE Miss Real!! We always read 3 stories, do a finger play or a song and watch a short video based on a book. Then we either do a craft, or just a coloring page. Sometimes, the kids give me their coloring pages as a gift, and LOVE that I proudly display them behind the Children's reference desk.

I always do a theme. Last week it was cows. This week we are having "New Books," brand new books that were just ordered and delivered to the library.



The other reason I love Tuesdays is because of Fabulous Movies Real's Never Seen Night. My friend "A" and I have been getting together every Tuesday for the past 3 years. Before that, our movie watching was more sporadic. "A" became my first friend when I moved to Nashville. The whole fabulous movie thing started one night while "A" was asking me if I had seen this movie, or that movie... And I hadn't. "A" decided that he was going to take it upon himself to educate me, and I am so glad he did!!! Some of the movies on the list that I hadn't seen before FMRNS was developed include:


The Color Purple
Jaws
Gone With the Wind
The Graduate
Charlotte's Web
Indiana Jones (all of them)
Several Audry Hepburn movies
and pretty much all the Hitchcock movies.
We watch movies from every genre and decade. We have now watched over 150 movies.

The movies aren't the only thing, though. We always have a fabulous dinner, some great snacks, and our reality talent competition of the moment (American Idol, America's Next Top Model, or the current obsession, So You Think You Can Dance) And we laugh...a lot. In fact, we have been known to laugh so hard that our tummies hurt and we have tears rolling down our cheeks. We call that "A's Pilates." We always have so much fun!!!
