Virtual Book Tour - The Hypnotist by M.J. Rose

When I first read the synopsis of The Hypnotist by M.J. Rose, I was instantly intrigued. Here it is, from the author's website:

I was a little worried - this book is the third in The Reincarnationist series (The Reincarnationist, The Memorist, and The Hypnotist), and I was sure I was going to be missing something that had been presented in the other two novels. While I am sure there are some details in the other two novels that would have been helpful in reading this book, I certainly didn't feel lost at all. Though I do plan on going back and reading the other two, because The Hypnotist was fabulous!!

This is one of those novels that you don't want to put down for several reasons. First, because it is so well written and paced so nicely, that you just want to keep reading. Second, there is so much going on, with several details that if you put it down for too long, you might not remember some of those details.

Agent Glass is on the trail of a list of Memory Tools that are believed to help in reaching into people's past lives. He is put in a position within the Phoenix Society, and agrees to undergo hypnosis to retain his cover. Along with that, Agent Glass's past comes back to haunt him as a painting that was stolen from his girlfriend's father's frame shop more than 20 years previous turns up ripped to shreds.

The idea of past lives is so intriguing to me. I hadn't really given it much thought before, and certainly haven't done much research on it, but I find it to be totally plausible. This novel also dives in to some art history, which is really interesting in itself. It follows the ownership of some pieces from ancient times to the present, and how they came to be where they are.

While there are quite a few story lines to follow, this book proves to be a fast paced thriller that will definitely keep you interested. I certainly didn't expect what happened at the end - I didn't see the twist coming! I highly recommend this one if you are looking for a thinker-thriller that you won't be able to put down!
