Story time with a special guest

My mom is visiting me in Nashville this weekend, and I am SO excited that she is coming to story time!!! She has never seen me do story time before, so I can't wait! Since we have such a special guest with us, I am reading fun stories about moms!!! The first three are the ones that I decided to read today, the next few are additional books I found about moms!










And, as always, it is FMRNS Night!!! I am dropping my mom off at the airport, and heading directly to my friend A's place! The feature of the evening is The Last Temptation of Christ from 1988.

Tuesday! Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!!! Since Thursday is Thanksgiving, I am sure you know what I'll be reading about this week!! Here are the books I picked out:





And, as always, it's FMRNS Night!!! In case you aren't sure, FMRNS = Fabulous Movies Real's Never Seen Night. My friend 'A' and I have been getting together every Tuesday for the past 3 years. Before that, our movie watching was more sporadic. 'A' became my first friend when I moved to Nashville. The whole fabulous movie thing started one night while 'A' was asking me if I had seen this movie, or that movie... And I hadn't. 'A' decided that he was going to take it upon himself to educate me, and I am so glad he did!!! Some of the movies on the list that I hadn't seen before FMRNS was developed include:


The Color Purple (1985) with Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey.


Jaws (1975)
Gone With the Wind (1939) with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh

The Graduate (1967) with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft.
Charlotte's Web (1973)
Indiana Jones (all of them - 1981, 1984, 1989) with Harrison Ford.
Several Audry Hepburn movies
and pretty much all the Hitchcock movies.
We watch movies from every genre and decade. We have now watched over 150 movies.

The movies aren't the only thing, though. We always have a fabulous dinner, some great snacks, and our reality talent competition of the moment (American Idol, America's Next Top Model, So You Think You Can Dance) And we laugh...a lot. In fact, we have been known to laugh so hard that our tummies hurt and we have tears rolling down our cheeks. We call that "A's Pilates." We always have so much fun!!!

Last week we were going to watch La Strada (1954), the only Fellini movie on the list, but we just weren't in the mood for that type of movie. So, instead we watched The Terminator. We also had a special edition of FMRNS Night this past Friday, where we watched Jackie Brown.

So, this week, we are definitely going to watch La Strada - we have it out from Interlibrary Loan, and it needs to go back!

Did someone say Tuesday?

It's a rainy Tuesday, today, but that's not gonna stop story time!! WHOOOOT!!! I decided to read stories about houses and homes today. The books I chose are:




I also have a specially scheduled story time after my regular story time today. We have a number of school groups who make appointments with us to have their own personal story time, which is pretty cool. It's double the story time fun today!

And of course, it's FMRNS Night!!! HOOORAY!!! We have La Strada (1954) from Interlibrary Loan, so we're going to watch that! It's the only Fellini movie on the list. Starring Anthony Quinn and Giulietta Masina.

And, of course, it's FMRNS Night!! I LOVE it!! The choices for tonight's feature don't include The Terminator. We are going to save that for another time. These choices are Thank God It's Friday with Donna Summer and Jeff Goldblum from 1978 (another Jeff Goldblum - if you'll remember, he was also in The Fly...and I just have to say again...EW!) or La Strada with Anthony Quinn. I am pretty sure we are going with TGIF, but it's always good to have a back up!!

Fabulous Thursday!!

First of all, how can it already be November?!?!

Since we weren't able to do FMRNS Night on Tuesday like usual, my friend A and I decided to postpone it until tonight!! WHOOT WHOOOOT!!!

We have two choices for the movie this week. The Terminator, with Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1984, or The Fly with Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis from 1986. Hmm, Sci-Fi/Thriller/Action or Sci-Fi/Thriller/Horror?

Spooky Tuesday

Since Halloween is tomorrow, it only seems fitting to find some Halloween books for story time today! There were so many to choose from!!! The first three are the ones that I decided to read for story time, the last four are the runners up.








Also, we are making a CD Pumpkin Craft from DLTK's Printable Crafts for Kids. Fun, huh?

I am very sad to say that there will be no FMRNS Night tonight. My friend A has a work commitment that he just can't get out of. BUMMER!! It is actually okay (this time!) because I desperately need to write my Academic Librarian Interview paper, which is due on Thursday. So, FMRNS Night will be postponed until Thursday. Stay tuned for the fabulous movie choice of the week!

Special edition of Fabulous Movies

Last night, my friend A and I had a special edition of FMRNS Night. We found out that the Rocky Horror Picture Show was playing at a historical theater downtown, and we KNEW we had to go!

Rocky Horror was a movie that wasn't on the list because apparently you have to be in exactly the right setting to watch it. It isn't so much the movie itself that's Fabulous, it's the atmosphere and the people you see it with. We never knew if we would get a chance to see this movie in this very specific setting, but when the opportunity arose to see a midnight showing, we jumped at the chance.

I wore a pretty pink wig (ok, so it was a cheap $10 wig that I bought on the internet for a friends bachelorette party), some HOTT pink eyelashes, and black lipstick. S.E.X.Y. let me tell ya. Pardon the bad camera phone picture...



There's even an Official Rocky Horror Picture Show Website. Definitely check it out!!

This was an amazing experience - everyone should find a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show (now running strong for 32 years!!) at a big theater, dress up and enjoy this movie!!!

Another Fabulous Tuesday!

Today I decided to read books about cows!! I found a couple of really cute ones!!!




And, of course, it's FMRNS Night!! We are watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame from 1939 with Charles Laughton as Quasimodo.


***In other news - only 3 more days until I get my results of Capstone!!!!!
